Amsterdam, a lovely capital where I have been living for seven years and a month, is highly populated with bicycle. With good reasons as well. Not only that bicycles are cheap, and considerably fast(especially in city centre) but they are also healthy, environmentally friendly (save the earth, not the queen, people) and have quite nice routes.
Yet all these years, I never took bicycle to work. There are two reasons for that:
1. Hippo is kind enough to cover my travel-expenses
2. I don’t know how to ride a bike (no comment :p)
Having these two (sorta) good reasons, I chose to commute to work by the means of public transportation, a.ka trams. And every morning, I have familiar faces which greeted me in their unusual ways.
It might be coincidence, it might be routine, it might even be a mixture of both.
One of these faces, is a face of a chinese girl. I am not sure if she is chinese, although she definitely look chinese. She wrapped herself in a long grey sweater, washed-out skinny jeans, grey sneakers and glossy “Tommy Hilfiger” bag. Always taking the far corner-back-seat, just near the exit, with head leaning against the tram’s window. Both of her eyes are closed and her breathing is slow.
Yes people, she is sleeping soundly. At 8:55 in the morning.
Now and then, a chinese guy will accompanied her. When he does, the girl will be leaning in his shoulder, both sleeping soundly.
Once, I think she must’ve been tired or didn’t get enough sleep. The next morning, she’s still in the same position, and still sleeping soundly. Next morning, ditto. Two weeks later…
0___0 (<< my flabbergasted face)
She's still there. With long grey sweater and skinny jeans and grey sneakers and even, the glossy "Tommy Hilfiger" bag; sleeping soundly in that corner seat.
I know people might not have enough night's rest, but every morning, for nearly 2 months? Must've been a chronic case of insomnia.
Or maybe, maybe, she's a superhero by night? fighting criminal until dawn and in the morning, have to go to work, because apparently being a superhero doesn't pay that much.
Or maybe tomorrow, I will find the courage to ask her why she's always sleeping soundly in the tram (and how did she managed to do so).
~ stay tuned for another faces, until then sleep well.
